What Does The Kitchen of the Future Look Like?

Kitchen designers often travel the world in search of new ideas, products, and trends. Much the same as fashion, these designs are often conceptual in their design long before they are available to the public. But that does not mean some people aren’t guessing about the kitchen of the future and what it will entire. It was IKEA which collaborated this year in a project under the name of Concept Kitchen 2025. Consulting firms worked with universities to see how the future kitchen will respond to future needs. So what was the conclusion? The collaborators involved in this project decided that the kitchen of the future will need to meet the changing lifestyle of the modern user. They predicted that future kitchen users will face higher food prices, will focus more on plant based proteins, will be working more from home, will have home delivery in lieu of shopping themselves, will have physically smaller homes, and that Western cultures will begin to integrate more from Eastern values. That being said, the units on display are integrated, standalone units, those which look much like pegboard work stations someone might set up in their garage. The style and design allows for a smaller refrigerator to rest right alongside all of the tall and flatter shelving spaces where the clear food containers would rest. These shelving spaces would abut the walls paces where cooking utensils rest and where cutlery and dishes are stored. Above the kitchen table or sink might rest an interactive screen wherein the food placed on the table would be registered and prompt recipes to be displayed for cooking options. In addition to this, the new designs on display in Milan right now have the following components: Modern Pantry The modern pantry will have transparent storage containers for food, placed on open shelves in exchange for shoving old Tupperware in the back of the refrigerator. The Table for Living This part of the future kitchen seeks to encourage people to be more creative with the food they eat and discard less. Mindful Water The mindful water system will have a basic that pivots from side to side in order to help people be more conscious of the water they consume. Thoughtful Disposal The thoughtful disposal system is a way to remind people of what it is they are throwing away, to help better recycling and compost, and avoid the overuse of landfills.
